What is Mulberry silk?
Mulberry silk is known for its exceptional smoothness and durability. Mulberry silk is the highest-quality type of silk, produced by silkworms that are kept in optimal conditions. Mulberry silk comes from the Bombyx mori silkworm – a species whose diet consists exclusively of mulberry leaves. The world’s finest silk is produced and woven in China, where silk has been made for over 4,000 years. Mulberry silk threads are among the finest in the world – smoother, stronger and more evenly coloured than other types of silk. A single silk fibre is stronger than a steel filament of the same diameter. At the same time, it feels smooth and luxurious to the touch.
What does momme mean?
In the context of silk, momme refers to a measure of quality, ie the weight and density of the silk. The higher the momme value, the higher the quality and durability of the silk fabric, particularly for bed linen.
